Rancho Primavera

A top destination for bird-watching tours, Rancho Primavera comprises 200 private acres and is located just one hour south of Puerto Vallarta. Situated within the Cabo Corrientes, near the small town of El Tuito, Rancho Primavera consists of a variety of habitats and thus have easily over 300 species of birds reported including several Mexican endemics, waterfowl, and raptors. Birding tours often use the ranch as a base for further adventures so this tour will provide an impressive sample of what more can be found in this region.

Guided bird tours at the Vallarta Botanical Garden

The Vallarta Botanical Garden is a prime birding location nestled in the beautiful Cabo Corrientes that is not to be missed. A visit to the bird feeders is always fun and often yields Green Jays, San Blas Jays and more. Flocks of Orange-fronted Parakeets fly by daily. The hummingbird feeders and floral gardens attract several species including the Sparkling-tailed Woodstar, Golden-crowned Emerald, and Mexican Hermit.

Sunrise El Jorullo Point

The spectacular Jorullo Point viewpoint is a new glass-floored viewpoint where you can see everything from the sea to the mountains and the Cuale River. The sun rises over the mountains and the morning bird chorus commences. You may capture stunning photographs with expert guide, Ric Chamblee, or you may simply enjoy the experience of a sunrise and wonderful chorus as everything begins to wake up and sing and forage.

Bird Festival Puerto Vallarta

Macaw Sanctuary

The Macaw Sanctuary provides a safe home to many animals, plants, and birds in addition to the 30 active Military Macaw nest boxes. The privately owned Sanctuary is located at 2000 feet elevation within a protected pine-oak area of the Cabo Corrientes and is about one hour south of Puerto Vallarta. The wild military macaw population is recovering thanks to the endless efforts of the property owners and friends. The Vallarta Bird and Nature Festival has donated 3 nest boxes, so far.

XIII Vallarta Bird & Nature Festival

In 2012 disappearing natural habitat due to modernization and population growth led a small group of nature lovers to gather to find ways to raise awareness and appreciation for the unparalleled natural resources in the Bay of Banderas and surrounding Cabo Corrientes.
